This makes my 8th or 9th cruise (I'm not entirely too sure on that)
My dad and I try to cruise at least once a year and twice if the itinerary looks good.
This time we traveled from Jacksonville, FL on a 5 day carnival cruise to Nassau, Bahamas and Freeport, Bahamas on the Carnival Elation. We were scheduled to also dock at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas but the weather did not want us there. If we would have docked there, that would have been our first time at Half Moon Cay, as a cruise we went on in 2013 had the same incident happen as well.
Day 1- the first day is always very chill, except this was some major college's spring breaks so "chill" wasn't in their vocabulary the moment they stepped on that ship. Luckily, at least we didn't witness, no one was a sh*t show.
Day 2- docking in Freeport! Honestly, Freeport was a let down. We have been to Freeport twice before and were let off at a different location because this one only had Señor Frogs (if you only wanted to drink) and a very small number of shops at the port. We usually don't book excursions until after we get off the boat because for one, they're incredibly expensive and two, we like to roam around by ourself for a bit. That's exactly what happened in Freeport since there was not much to do right there. Now, don't get me wrong, we definitely have taken many-a taxis across many islands to and from the boat to sightsee and just relax at the beach but this time was difficult with the amount of time we were given on the island. So, I ended up buying a $10 coconut drink and getting back on the boat to lay out until it was time for dinner.
Day 3- Nassau! This is probably one of the most well known cruise- or Caribbean locations, to many. This is where the infamous Atlantis Resort is. So, naturally, that's exactly where we headed. To get there, you have to either take a taxi through the island or you can opt for a water taxi. Guess which one we chose? If you thought the water taxi, you'd be correct! Once we get there, we get very lost. Very, very, lost. As I mentioned, we have been to the Bahamas twice before so we SHOULD NOT be lost. We must have gone in a different door to the resort because it took us, no lie, THIRTY MINUTES to get from outside the resort, inside the resort, to the beach. Once we got there, it was as crowded as usual and the waves were just as intense as the last time. The water was just as blue and the sand, just as white & soft. 11/10 would recommend.
Day 3- impromptu day at sea! Since this was the day the weather was not on the Elation's side, it was a day at sea! It was nice expect for the fact that most of the people on the ship were already very sunburnt (including myself) or very drunk (from previous days). Carnival does a very good job of adding in elements that are unscheduled for days like this where we are not able to dock at the next port. Lots of trivia, lots of shows, lots of pizza.
Day 4- official day at sea! this. day. was. freezing. The weather was not on our side again as the weather outside was, i'm sure, not more than 70 degrees the whole day. Again, many people were burnt and drunk so it was not too much of an issue, but still freezing outside.
